SEBI-Livestock Team Awarded Best Science / Research Team Recognition

We are proud to announce that SEBI-Livestock Team has been awarded Science / Research Team of the Year at the prestigious Easter Bush Staff Recognition Awards 2024! The award ceremony, held on the 23rd January, celebrated the exceptional contributions of staff across the The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. The Award was presented by Professor Lisa Boden – Head of School, The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

This award recognises teams that have made a significant impact, overcome challenges, fostered collaboration, and delivered outstanding results. Winning is a testament to our team’s incredible initiative, resilience, creativity, and teamwork over the past year.

At the core of our work is developing data models that help the Gates Foundation track and assess the impact of their investments in livestock development. In 2024, through the Livestock Data for Decisions (LD4D) network, we collaborated with 20 international experts to develop evidence briefs on Climate Finance for Livestock Development, with a goal to support sustainable livestock solutions by equipping low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with the tools to measure emissions, build strong investment cases, and secure funding for climate adaptation and mitigation. Our LD4D Solutions Groups and Gender & Livestock Data Community of Practice bring together global experts in animal health, climate finance, data science, gender equality, and sustainability to tackle livestock green gas emission and address gender inequality through collective solutions.

We shared our work at key global events, sparking valuable discussions among investors and livestock development community, including:

  • G20 agriculture preparatory meetings
  • New York Climate Week
  • United Nations Climate Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan

This award recognises the dedication and expertise of our team, and we could not be prouder of what we have achieved together. Looking ahead, we are excited to introduce new data innovations and partnerships that will continue driving positive change in the livestock sector.

Dr Karen Smyth, SEBI-Livestock Program Director, emphasised:

“We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition award. At SEBI-Livestock, we are dedicated to tackling global livestock data challenges to support decision-making in low and middle-income countries. By applying academic rigor and innovation, we strive to find solutions to real-world problems. As a non-traditional academic team, having the university acknowledge our achievements in this way is a tremendous encouragement to us all.”

Thank you everyone who has supported us on this journey – this achievement is a shared success!
