Collaboration is central to how SEBI-Livestock solves complex data and evidence challenges in the global livestock sector. We work alongside funders, governments, research institutions, and private-sector partners to make data more accessible, generate actionable evidence, and deliver decision-ready insights. Our goal is to ensure investments and policies translate into real-world impact faster.

Our collaborations

Monitoring & Learning collaborations

As of September 2026, we have worked with 39 Gates Foundation grantees to support projects to achieve the intended impact of its grant. This includes inception support (concept notes, proposals and results frameworks), and ongoing monitoring and learning through data collation, visualisation, insights and synthesis. We have also supported 21 grants on activities such as workshopping monitoring requirements for grants aiming to achieve systemic change, developing learnings and impact briefs to highlight achievements, and hosting webinars where grantees have been able to share their approaches, outcomes and learnings, or reach out to the community for input.

The result is stronger delivery, clearer accountability, and learning that can be shared within an organisation and across an investment portfolio.

Gates Foundation grantees (portfolio support)

Through our Monitoring and Learning service, SEBI-Livestock works directly with Gates Foundation grant-holders to manage data workflows, develop dashboards, and synthesise insights that track interventions across the value chain. This collaboration strengthens implementation by providing inception support and standardising evidence generation, allowing diverse projects to share comparable learnings. Ultimately, engaging directly with grantees enables faster course-correction and delivers clearer evidence of impact, empowering the foundation to make more informed investment decisions.

Case study: GALVmed Monitoring and Learning partnership

We work closely with GALVmed, an organisation that makes livestock vaccines, medicines and diagnostics accessible and affordable to millions of people in developing countries. Our partnership focuses on improving the evidence and modelling required to support critical investment decisions across Africa and South Asia. By assembling and structuring relevant data inputs to create robust impact models, SEBI-Livestock has supported GALVmed to build stronger investment cases and establish clearer expectations of outcomes for small-scale livestock producers. This collaboration ensures that market development efforts are precisely targeted to maximise productivity and income benefits, validating the financial commitment to the animal health sector.

Research & Evidence collaborations

We work with leading academics and global research institutions to align approaches and methods, strengthen shared evidence and produce more comparable data for sector decision-making.

Selected partners

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)

Our collaborations with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) focus on aligning research methodologies and sharing evidence to tackle shared data challenges in sustainability, animal health, and gender inclusion. ILRI scientists have participated in LD4D Solutions Groups and we are collaborating with ILRI’s gender team to co-create the Women's Empowerment and Livestock Index online training programme. This partnership reduces duplication and accelerates progress on common constraints, while ensuring that vital data tools are easier to access and use.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

SEBI-Livestock maintains a strategic partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to strengthen evidence-based decision-making across environmental and social dimensions of the livestock sector. Our collaboration with the GLEAM (Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model) initiative allows us to improve data inputs and ensure environmental assessments are directly relevant to policy needs. GLEAM staff are also key members of LD4D solutions groups on climate finance, methane management, livestock feed baskets.  

Simultaneously, as an official partner of LEAP (Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership), we align on sustainability and smallholder livelihoods to mobilise evidence and communicate guidance, creating clearer pathways from global standards to practical investment decisions.

International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

By combining complementary modelling strengths, our partnership with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) merges SEBI-Livestock's expertise in livestock production systems with IFPRI's economy-wide and macroeconomic capabilities. Through the LD4D Gender & Livestock Modelling Solutions Group, we support co-development of practical tools that help policymakers and donors design inclusive strategies at both local and national scales. This integrated approach enables a more comprehensive understanding of livestock investment impacts while ensuring that equity and inclusion remain central to sustainable sector development.

Cornell University – Food Systems & Global Change

We collaborate with Cornell University's Food Systems & Global Change programme, to bridge the gap between complex environmental assessments and practical, decision-ready tools. Joint work on LD4D activities, such as the Livestock Feed Baskets Data initiative, and the co-development of assessment frameworks tailored to funder needs create resources that clarify the links between production choices and their broader consequences. This partnership empowers decision-makers to evaluate how specific livestock strategies simultaneously impact environmental sustainability and nutrition outcomes.

Working alongside the Data Science Unit (DSU) at the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics, this collaboration strengthens the technical foundations of our data products and evidence synthesis. By focusing on clearly defined use cases, the team jointly develops advanced methods, automation, and analytics to address priority programme questions. The result is a suite of faster, repeatable workflows that enhance efficiency and reproducibility, enabling innovative tools to scale effectively across multiple projects.

CAMARADES, School of Medicine, University of Edinburgh

Partnering with CAMARADES at the University of Edinburgh's School of Medicine allows SEBI-Livestock to accelerate evidence synthesis, ensuring insights remain current and immediately usable. Drawing on the group's extensive experience in systematic review and meta-analysis—originally developed to improve translational medicine—the collaboration implements rigorous workflows for evidence identification, curation, and updating. This streamlines how research is processed and maintained, enabling decision-makers to access the most relevant findings faster and with greater confidence while reducing the lag between new research and practical application.

LD4D Strategic partners

Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC)

LD4D has joined as an official partner of CCAC, an initiative convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). CCAC is a voluntary partnership of over 200 governments, intergovernmental organizations, businesses, scientific institutions and civil society organizations committed to protecting the climate and improving air quality through actions to reduce methane and short-lived climate pollutants. Through this alliance, we co-convened the LD4D Digital Services for Livestock Methane Management Solutions Group and co-created practical resources like the dashboard of socio-environmental assessment tools. These efforts equip stakeholders with the specific evidence and digital instruments needed to effectively implement methane reduction strategies in the agricultural sector.

ClimateShot Investor Coalition (CLIC)

The LD4D Secretariat has joined as a member of CLIC, a global coalition driving investment in sustainable agriculture and food systems. In this role, we engage directly with leading investors and initiatives to align our evidence base and data tools with actionable investment strategies. This collaboration strengthens the critical link between robust research and real-world capital, ensuring that sustainable agri-food projects are supported by the data needed to secure funding and deliver impact.
